Caesium is a metal discovered by the German chemist Robert Bunsen along with Gustav Kirchhoff in 1860. Due to the bright blue lines found in Caesium's emission, the Latin word 'caesius' meaning sky-blue was chosen. Caesium was the first element to be discovered using the spectroscope.
